Woven: The Open Bible

Mar 23, 2025    Rev. Ken Casey

“B-I-B-L-E that’s the book for me” we sang at Vacation Bible School when I was a little tyke. And it is still sung at VBS. The Bible is very important for the church and for us as individuals.

So often when we hear the phrase “the Word of God” we think about the Bible, because we have been told so often that the Word of God is the Bible and that we should believe it; sometimes literally. But the Word of God is a person-Jesus Christ.

“It is Christ Himself, not the Bible, which is the true word of God. The Bible, read in the right spirit and with the guidance of good teachers will bring us to him.” -CS Lewis

"Christ is the Word of God. It is not in certain texts written in the New Testament, valuable as they are; it is not in certain words which Jesus spoke, vast as is their preciousness; it is in the Word, which Jesus is, that the great manifestation of God is made." ~ Phillips Brooks

What difference does it make that we encounter the Word of God in a person? It is very important that we read the Bible, which tells us how to recognize the Word, what the Word teaches us, how we are to respond and that we are expected to be the Word for the rest of the world. But we encounter the Word of God in a person.

Come to worship Sunday or tune in via the internet to learn about the Bible as the primary and a most important witness to the Word of God.
