COMMUNION

In Holy Communion, we remember and proclaim God's saving work through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We are reminded again of the gifts of God's grace and forgiveness given to each of us. In communion, we celebrate what God is doing among us and in us. This sacrament is often called by other names, including the Lord's Supper, the Last Supper and Eucharist.

In the United Methodist Church, Holy Communion is open to all persons. You do not have to be a member to participate. At First United Methodist Church, we celebrate Communion as part of our regular worship services throughout the year, generally on the first Sunday of the month as well as at special services such as Maundy Thursday  and Christmas Eve.

What does the United Methodist Church believe about Communion?

The United Methodist Church recognizes baptisms from other faiths and churches.

What does the United Methodist Church believe about Baptism?

Baptism is a Covenant between an individual and God. It is God’s word to us, proclaiming our adoption by grace and our word to God, promising our response of faith and love.

First United Methodist Church of Gadsden welcomes your inquiry about the Sacrament of Baptism and we look forward to assisting your family with planning this special day. It is our desire to make your baptism a most memorable occasion.

Persons of all ages can be baptized at First United Methodist Church. We baptize by sprinkling water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Please contact the church office if you are interested in finding out more about scheduling a Baptism.

Contemporary Worship

CELEBRATION SERVICE
9:00 AM
Gym
Come and Celebrate God's love and grace.  CELEBRATION is a contemporary worship service of music, prayer, and meditation.  Our Celebration band led by Mike Bright shares contemporary Christian music, and joins the congregation in praise and song.

Children are welcomed in the service with a Children's Minute.  Children may choose to sit with their parents or they may participate in worship and enjoy children's activities at our Celebration Children's Table in the rear of the gym during the service.

Do you sing or play a musical instrument?  Share your gift with our church!  Contact Mike Bright for more information on our Celebration Praise Band.

Traditional Worship

TRADITIONAL SERVICE
10:45 AM
Sanctuary
Come and know God's grace and love through the Christian fellowship and worship of our Traditional Service.   Familiar hymns and special anthems by the Chancel Choir, meditations, prayer, and scripture, in addition to the sermon each Sunday morning, are all a part of this time of worship.

During the traditional service, Children are welcomed at the altar rail for a brief children's sermon.  Following the Children's Minute, children may return to sit with their parents in the sanctuary for the remainder of the service or  Children ages 3K through 3rd Grade may choose to leave the sanctuary to attend Children's Church.
